Dede had a dream to attend the New York School of Art.

Despite a strenuous & oppressive home-life, Dede managed to keep smiling. She excelled at H. Grady Spruce H.S. in Dallas, being a member of the "Chapel Club", "Art Club", and the student body support group, "The Tribe". She was a freelance artist and designed the Spruce Apache school logo for the “I CARE” campaign that rewarded good citizenship instead of punishing bad behavior.
